What is Prevention and Health Promotion?

Preserve, promote and improve the health and well-being of our community through comprehensive population and individual level services.

The Prevention and Health Promotion team uses evidence-based prevention strategies and health promotion to empower people to take control of their health in order to prevent disease and improve quality of life.

Our team uses the Health Impact Pyramid to ensure the work we are doing will influence the population as whole. Strategies such as changing social norms, and creating community-wide policies impact populations, while, counseling and education impact individuals.

Community Groups

The Crook County Empowered (CCE) Coalition is made up of community members from different sectors of the community including: schools, parents, youth, healthcare professionals, faith-based community, law enforcement, local government, and youth-serving organizations. etc. Their mission is to engage the community to empower youth to make safe, healthy, and drug-free decisions. CCE has dedicated their time to educate the community on the risks of e-cigarettes and nicotine, especially for teens.

CCE Workgroups
The Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) is one of CCE’s workgroups. SADD’s mission is to empower young people to successfully confront the risks and pressures that challenge them throughout their daily lives. SADD students use peer-to-peer education to raise awareness on positive teen relationships, mental health, substance abuse prevention, teen driving safety, and youth development.

CCE Taskforces

Taskforces of the coalition are identified by need and only exist for a short period of time. The previous taskforces included a branding and logo taskforce and a grant writing taskforce. CCE’s current taskforce focuses on an e-cigarettes. The e-cigarette taskforce consists of CCE members and concerned community members. They have developed a position statement on e-cigarettes and are working towards reducing youth access to e-cigarette products in Crook County
