Records

The Records Division processes and maintains crime/incident reports generated by the Detective and Patrol divisions. The Records Division also processes and maintains warrants, traffic and criminal citations -- and does tape transcription for the Detective and Patrol units among various other tasks.

Much of the information that the Sheriff’s Office stores is routinely available to the public for a fee:

  • Non-criminal accident reports
  • Some property crimes reports
  • Tow reports
  • Litigated reports when released by the District Attorney's Office

Of course there are exceptions under the law that restrict the release of some records in order to protect juveniles, cases under investigation, the security of the Sheriff’s Office personnel or the facility, etc. Some requests are not readily available without a supervisor’s approval. The first step in the process is to submit a request.  If the information you need is not immediately available, Records Staff will let you know if or when the information is expected to be releasable.

To request a copy of an incident report, please submit your request in writing or stop by the Sheriff’s Office at:
Records Unit
308 NE 2nd Street
Prineville, OR 97754
Requests can also be faxed to (541) 416-0353

The Records Request Form can be found at the bottom of this page.
Be sure to include as much information as possible including the full names of the persons involved; incident date and location; and Sheriff's Office case number if available.
