Solar

Residential

The permits you will need to place solar on your property are based on where you will be mounting it (the roof of a building or on the ground). You are welcome to apply online at Oregon ePermitting. However, you will still need to fill out and upload our solar application to Oregon ePermitting.

Roof Mount:

You will need:

  • Solar Structural Permit Application (Includes electrical permit application)
  • Bid Sheet from the solar company doing the installation

*You may apply for both online, but the solar structural permit will require additional steps by the building department to finish out.

In most cases, the project will be prescriptive, which means you will not be required to submit plans for review. For the electrical side of things, the project must be under 25 KVA to be prescriptive. For the structural side of things, be sure to fill out the Solar Checklist along with your solar structural application to determine if it qualifies for prescriptive.

Ground Mount:

You will first need to go through an application process with the planning department. For more information about this step, you will want to contact them at plan@crookcountyor.gov or by calling them at (541)447-3211

For ground mounted systems you will only need an electrical permit, unless the project is large enough to be considered commercial, in which case an additional permit may be needed.

Manufactured Homes & Solar

Manufactured homes will always require a review of the structural plans, which means the solar structural permit will be non-prescriptive. For this you must submit a complete set of plans (or upload online), including the truss calculations for the home. As with all solar projects, an electrical permit application must be submitted.

COMMERCIAL

Please call our office and make an appointment to meet with our team prior to beginning the process. You may reach us at by calling (541)447-3211 or emailing bld@crookcountyor.gov. Please do NOT apply online if your solar project is commercial.

INSPECTIONS

At the time of inspections, the CAD drawings (Plans), inspection cards/labels, and permits must be on job site and available for the inspectors. Once the permits are issued, the contractor or owner are responsible in making sure inspection cards are picked up from the office prior to scheduling inspections. Re-inspection fees can be invoiced if these are not on job site for inspections.
