Building Department:

We, the building department, process your building permit applications, review your construction documents to ensure it meets our County's adopted building codes and inspect your construction to verify it's being constructed to your approved construction documents. 

Here are a few things to keep in mind when your starting our process:
  • First time development of property that falls in the Parks & Recreational district must pay a Parks & Rec fee prior to the issuance of a permit for a dwelling or manufactured home. To find out what this fee is, please contact the City of Prineville at: 541-447-2367. 
  • Stick Built Dwellings must have mechanical plans submitted with the structural plans. See additional information here.
  • Building permit fee's are usually separated into two payments.
    • At the time your application is entered, the structural plan review fee will be invoiced and will need to paid prior to the examiners reviewing any documentation.  
    • Once the plans are approved and the application is ready to be issued, the remaining fees will be invoiced. 
  • Items that are to be available on job site for our inspectors. 
    • Permits.
    • Inspection cards and job location card.
    • Approved, legible, in color construction plans/documents. 
    • When applicable, the MII's (manufactured installation instructions) for certain appliances. 
  • It's the applicant, contractor, and/or owner's responsibility to verify property lines and guarantee the setbacks are being met. 
  • Applications and permits are active for 180 days, with every approved inspections the permit extends for another 180 days. Should you need to file an extension, you may send an extension request before the permit expires. The applicant and owner will get notified via, email or mail that the permit is about to expire 30 day prior to it's expiration date. 
    • When permits expire, you may have to pay a reinstatement fees or re-apply for your permits. 
  • Unless requested for a further out date, inspections take place on the next business day, after you schedule the inspection. Inspection times range from 8am to 4pm.
