Services - Suggest a Purchase

Is there a book, movie, audiobook, music CD, or magazine that you would like us to add to the library collection? We'd love to hear from you! Fill out the Purchase Suggestion Form below or pick up a paper copy at the library's checkout desk.

Purchase suggestions are accepted from current Crook County Library cardholders. The name given on the form must match the library card number. Deschutes and Jefferson County cardholders may make purchase suggestions via their home libraries.

It ordinarily takes from 2-6 weeks to select, order, and process (make “library-ready”) a new item. Cataloging and processing staff give purchase suggestions priority over other library materials.

Due to the volume of purchase suggestions received, we do not automatically notify patrons when their purchase suggestion is accepted or declined. This information is available by request. If you request it, we will place your suggested item on hold for you when it comes in provided that you have not reached your hold request limit.

While we welcome all suggestions, we do occasionally decline purchase requests. Common reasons for declining a purchase request include, but are not limited to:

  1. Item is available at Deschutes and/or Jefferson County (these items appear in the catalog and can be held);
  2. Item is not in print or is not available from our distributors (Amazon, Baker & Taylor, or Ingram);
  3. Item received negative reviews from critics, or was not reviewed at all;
  4. Item is part of a larger series that is cost-prohibitive or impossible to obtain in full (TV series, reference materials);
  5. Item does not fit within the terms of our Collection Development policy.

If your suggestion is not selected by the library, you may submit a separate InterLibrary Loan (ILL) request. If you have any questions about the selection process, please contact Assistant Director Jane Scheppke at 541-447-7978 ext 303.
