West Nile Virus (WNV) is now well-established in the United States and continues to cause illness, and some deaths, on a yearly basis. In Oregon, the occurrence of WNV has been quite variable, with some areas of the state seeing a significant impact and others seeing almost none. Since the first detections of WNV in Oregon, Crook County has seen one bird test positive (2004) and no diagnosed human cases.
Within Crook County, the Health, GIS and Vector Control departments provide ongoing surveillance and work to identify, map and treat mosquito breeding areas.
