Crook County Residents,
Your public health department staff is working hard to keep people from getting both seasonal influenza and novel influenza A (H1N1). October and early-November saw a dramatic increase in H1N1 influenza illness.Things have quieted a bit now and our goal is to provide H1N1 vaccine to as many people as possible prior to another rise in this flu in our communities.
As of mid-January, the new H1N1 strain is responsible for almost all flu cases occurring in Oregon.
H1N1 flu vaccine is now available to anyone, 6 months of age and above, who wants it.
I encourage you to be vaccinated for the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus and to also get the seasonal influenza vaccine.
We are currently offering H1N1, as well as seasonal influenza vaccines during our walk-in immunization clinics every Monday. We are also distributing H1N1 vaccine to the healthcare community so that vaccine is available through local medical providers, as well.
While lots of activity is being done by public health at the local level to keep you and your community healthy - YOUR ACTIONS will have the biggest impact on keeping your family, friends, and other Crook County residents healthy.
Most importantly, remember the three C's:
Clean your hands frequently
Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your sleeve
Contain germs by staying home when ill
Thanks for doing your part to keep all of us healthy this fall and winter.
Yours in health,
Muriel DeLaVergne-Brown, Public Health Director
