How To Use A Condom
September 03, 2010
How To Use A Condom
Use latex or polyurethane condoms only. Lambskin condoms do not stop HIV or other sexually transmitted infections.
Store condoms in a cool, dry place.
DO NOT
store condoms in your pocket or wallet.
Don’t use an old condom. Check expiration date on package before using.
Always have more than one condom with you, in case the first one breaks.
Be careful not to put any holes in the condom when opening the package, be careful of nails, teeth, and jewelry.
Don’t use two condoms together. Use the extra-strength kind if you are worried about the condom breaking.
Practice using a condom before you have sex with someone else. Can you put it on in the dark and in a hurry?
Use a water-based lubricant (K-Y Jelly or Slippery Stuff).
DO NOT
use an oil-based lubricant (Vaseline, baby oil, Crisco) as oil breaks condoms down.
Put on the condom as soon as the penis is erect.
Pinch the tip of the condom to remove air and to allow room at the end for semen to collect during ejaculation. Unroll the condom all the way down to the base of the penis.
If a condom breaks during sex, withdraw the penis and wash. Wash gently and do not douche- this could damage tissues and make risk of infection higher.
Immediately after ejaculation, before erection is completely gone, withdraw the penis, holding the condom onto the penis.
Remove the condom and throw it away. NEVER use a condom twice.
Wash semen off of penis with soap and water before engaging in more sexual contact.
